Making a Call to 911

Try to remain as calm as possible. Take a deep breath and speak clearly.
Tell the 911 operator the nature of the emergency. EXAMPLE: I need the .... (Fire Department, ambulance or Police).
If the house is on fire, LEAVE the house and call from a neighbor's home or a cell phone.
Know where you are. If help is needed at another location, tell the 911 operator.
Answer the questions the operator asks. They can help to determine the help you need.
Keep the answers short and to the point.
Follow all the instructions given to you by the 911 operator.
Stay on the line until the 911 operator tells you to hang-up.
Turn on your outside lights and if possible send someone out to direct the emergency personnel.
