Large Losses of Water by Households/Businesses
- Any household/business which elects to come under this County Policy is eligible to do so only once in any given twelve (12) month period. The household/business will therefore be cautioned, regarding the above, whenever a request is received by the Perquimans County Water System Billing Office. When a request (written or verbal) is received by the Water Department Billing Office, the Billing Office will mail out, to the household/business, a form letter explaining what is allowed under this County Policy; the letter will also show all calculations regarding the household/business" request and will include a written CAUTION due to the twelve (12) month limitation. The household/business must then on the appropriate line of the form, sign the request, date it and return the same to the Water Department Billing Office, if it elects to follow through with its original request, within two weeks of the date at the top of the original letter. Upon receiving the signed request, the Billing Office will make the required adjustments called for and inform the County Manager of the same by providing him a copy of the signed request.
- The household/business may also elect to spread the amount due, if it exceeds $100.00, over a period of time, not to exceed six (6) months. The total to be spread must be divided into equal payments and the regular monthly bill must, of course, be paid on time.
- The following is also a part of this policy and shall be included on the original form letter mailed out to the household/business: If payment is ten (10) days late, the water to the household/business will automatically be turned off by the Water Department and a fee charged per County regulations to turn the water back on again.
Calculation for Credit Allowed by Perquimans County due to a Large Loss of Water
- The Billing Office will FIRST check the Large Water Loss File regarding the Twelve (12) Month Rule for the household/business. If it is not in the file, then it is eligible to receive the benefit.
- The Billing Office will then calculate the household/business average monthly water bill by using the last six (6) months of water readings (usage/bill) for the household/business.
- Perquimans County will allow a reduction of 50% of the value of the leak - per Water Rate Schedule - after a deduction has first been made for the average monthly bill.
Example
Total Water Loss (Leak) $400.00
- Average Calculated Monthly Bill 35.10
- 400 - 25.10 = $364.90
- *The County will then reduce this amount.*
- 50% of $364.90 = $182.45
The Household/Business will therefore be required to pay:
- Average Monthly Water Bill $ 35.10
- 50% of the Leak (Loss) +182.45
- Total Due to County $217.55
NOTE: This amount may, at the election of the household/business, be spread over a period of time, not to exceed six (6) months.
